Shelby was stunning, she was wearing her mother's wedding dress from 1984. It was all lace, and classically beautiful, timeless even. Her mother clasped her necklace and was holding back tears as her little girl became her own woman right in that moment. When her Daddy took her hand and led her to the floor for their dance... I had to set my camera down and cry.. not just because this was my baby sister, but because the pure love and joy of our father's face and hers overwhelmed me. I was blessed to capture all of it.
I've had a camera in my hand since I was around 6 years old. My Granny always made sure to have film in her camera every time I visited her. In later years this would prove more valuable than gold when in 1995 she passed away, and the family realized they didn't have many current images of her because she didn't like having her picture taken, except when one happy, silly, and curious little girl wanted to take her picture. All sorts of coffee drinking, crossword puzzle doing, cooking in her kitchen shots taken from a child's height looking up in awe and love of her Granny.
They never told me in High School that "taking pictures" could be a passion, a career... an avenue worth pursuing. Nonetheless I moved on to working for Lifetouch Portrait Studios, JC Penny Portraits, and Olan Mills. For 10 years I photographed and trained other photographers on not the technical side of photography (I was a novice then), but how to capture a moment. I told my employees and trainees, "We've been invited into people's homes, their life, and their memories. You're not just taking another baby picture... you're taking that family's first picture of the child they tried to conceive for 10 years. You are taking this family's last Family Portrait with their Great Grandmother who is edging on 100 years of life and stories. Imagine if you will that every photo you took was posted on a highway billboard for all to see... Would you be proud? Would it evoke a feeling of joy?"
I have been blessed to take a first... and sadly a last picture of someone.
Then it hit me... I want more. I want more than the confines of corporate pictures with 10 mins to "sell" someone their memories. So I bought my own camera... but had NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT!
I set it to Auto (taboo in the pro-photog world) and *GASP* people still loved my work, because they didn't see that my white balance was off, or that there was a fire hydrant in the background... They saw that they were holding hands with the love of their life, they were holding their baby for the first time, they saw the memory right there, memorialized in print, on their wall, for years to come.
In 2016 I met my husband (The "K" in MK DeLacy, and DeLacy patriarch). I told him I "take pictures", and he told me that was sweet. I know, don't come for him yet ladies... (LOL) As our relationship progressed, so did his love and understanding of photography. With him I was able to grow as an artist, as he helped me grasp the technical side and how to understand light. That combined with his graphic design and editing talents took me, and inevitably US, to the next level.
Then he joined me in shooting his first wedding, of a high school friend of mine. He was IN! We learned that together we had the ability and desire to create something more than pictures of a wedding, but to paint a picture of a sacred, beautiful, and authentic moment, sealing it in time.
So that is what we do, and how we see your wedding, one of the greatest bonds two people can willingly make. You've imagined this moment for a long time, and it's our job-- no, our Privilege, to capture it, preserve it, and treat it as a lasting part of history. To us your pictures have no lesser value than the Mona Lisa itself.
We look forward to crying with you, laughing with you, and being the quiet (most of the time) observer, documenting your story as it's written and experienced.

"Mellisa and Keith were the
highlight of my wedding day..."
RECOGNITION, REVIEWS, & LOVE
Mellisa and Keith were the highlight of my wedding day (aside from marrying the LOML) and the only thing that kept me from completely losing my mind when the rest of the ceremony was a complete s#!+ show! Mellisa even helped my bridesmaid with her fake eyelashes and recommended the most amazing speakeasy that my fiancé and I loved. I seriously cannot thank these two enough for all they did for us on our wedding day and have not stopped talking about them since. If you’re wondering whether or not to hire them —- do it!!!!!! You WILL NOT regret it at all! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mellisa and Keith!!!!
I love MK DeLacy Photography, This was my second time having them do photos. When we decided to do the entire family I couldn't think of anybody who could capture us better. We had a huge family group and then lots of break downs of individual families. I couldn't be happier with how well they worked with us, how breathtaking are photos came out. They were amazing with all the little kids and the older adults who don't like getting pictures. They captured our personalities in the moment and poses. Truly talented and beyond sweet.
I won't be able to have any other photographer.
Mellisa has not only taken my maternity pictures, but my family portraits for many years and a boudoir session as well! Mellisa & Keith work well together. I’ll give you one example. Mellisa was trying her best to get the PERFECT shot of my boys and myself from above out in a field. She tried until she finally got just the right height and angle on the shoulders of Keith! They capture genuine and natural smiles because they KNOW how to make you AND your children smile! They are the complete package together and I would highly recommend them to ANYONE having pictures taken whatever the occasion may be!
We had family pics done by Mellisa and her husband Keith. It was such a wonderful experience. They were patient with my active toddler and took amazing shots. The lighting was perfect and I am so happy we have beautiful family pictures. The best part was that it was such a comfortable shoot not stiff poses you would find in the mall. Definitely looking forward to using them for future shoots.
